2020 Annual Reunion Cancelled

Dear MMHS Alumni Members;
 
Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health of our members, the Machias Memorial High School Alumni Association Officers have made the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Annual Reunion. Although we all hope that things will have improved by August, there is a lot of preparation and planning that has to take place in the months preceding August that cannot be done within the confines of the Covid-19 protocols, leaving us no option but to cancel for this year.
 
We send our ‘Congratulations’ to our 2020 Honored Classes on the milestones you have achieved! We hope you celebrate this summer and we hope you will also join us on August 14, 2021 when we will have double the celebration! We will honor our 2020 Classes as well as our 2021 Classes with a huge party! Our venue at the Lee Pellon Center is already secured for Saturday, August 14, 2021 and your Alumni Association Officers are gathering ideas for making the 2021 Reunion well worth the wait!
 
The Alumni Association would like to take a moment to remind everyone that our Annual Reunion is the only fundraising currently done for the activities of the Association. We are committed to honor our MMHS Graduate Scholarship Program for 2020 but would ask that, if you are able, you would donate whatever amount you can so that we can continue these awards. Every year we give up to $1000 (in individual awards of up to $250) to qualifying MMHS Seniors. This year, probably more than any other year, these scholarships will be greatly needed by our students so any donation you can make will make a big difference.
 
The Association Officers are also working on additional fundraising activities for the future to supplement our budget in anticipation of the 2021 Scholarships as well as an expanded Annual Reunion event for 2021. If you have any ideas or would like to join us for Alumni meetings please let us know. We would love to hear from you! We are currently meeting through ZOOM which gives everyone, near and far, an opportunity to participate. The link for future meetings will be posted on Facebook.
 
In closing, again, this is not a decision that was easily made but one we feel had to be made to keep everyone safe over the next few months.
